Oral Conscious Sedation

Dr. Timmerman is certified as an oral conscious sedation doctor which means he has been trained to administer sedation appropriately and safely.

The doctor will prescribe medication for you to take the night before your appointment enabling you to get a restful night sleep. Your dental appointment will be scheduled for the first thing the next morning. You will take a small pill an hour before you arrive and then one more upon arrival at our office. You'll be escorted to your treatment room where we will make sure you are totally comfortable, and as the medication takes effect, you will begin to have a feeling of complete relaxation. Your vital signs will be constantly monitored by a pulse oximeter and other equipment to ensure your safety and comfort.

How Will I be Affected by Conscious Sedation?

Oral conscious sedation does not cause you to lose consciousness but rather induces a relaxed and anxiety-free state where you are still conscious and able to answer questions or follow directions. Many of our patients experience an amnesiac effect and remember very little about their procedure. After your procedure you will need someone to drive you home so you can allow the medication to gradual wear off while you rest.

This treatment has been a real blessing for our patients who need dental treatment, but struggle with dental anxiety issues or those who need extensive dental work done. They love the idea of being able to "sleep" through their appointments where, because our patients are completely comfortable, we are able to get a large amount of work done in only a few visits.
